Sergei Rakhmaninov (1873-1943) - composer, pianist and conductor, one of the greatest composers of the XX century and the world's most famous Russian musicians. Rachmaninoff created his own, clearly unique, instantly recognizable style, he has had an enormous impact on the Russian and world music. Rakhmaninov's piano works included in the repertoire of almost all pianists in the world.
Preludes are among the best known and loved by the public piano works of the composer. Pieces of cycles op. 23 (1903, Prelude in G Minor - 1901) op. 32 (1910) - with the addition of youthful famous Prelude in C-sharp minor, op. 3 number 2, written in 1892 - form a conglomerate similar to the traditional cycle of 24 preludes, united on the principle of contrast and alternation of major and minor keys.
