Mechislav Samuilovich Weinberg (1919–1996) - an outstanding Soviet and Russian composer of the 20th century, Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1971), People's Artist of the RSFSR (1980), laureate of the USSR State Prize (1990), author of more than 150 opuses: symphonies, operas, ballets, concerts, numerous chamber works, music for plays, films, cartoons.
The cycle "21 easy pieces for piano" is a high example of high-quality, bright and original music for children, continuing the traditions of R. Schumann, F. Liszt, P. Tchaikovsky.
The numbers in the cycle seem to recreate one day in the life of a child - with his games, walks, meetings with various fairy-tale characters, reading fairy tales by A. S. Pushkin and H. C. Andersen, experiencing various emotions and then saying goodbye to family and sleep. The musical language of the plays includes features of different movements of art of the 20th century - from late romanticism, impressionism to expressionism and neo-baroque.
The cycle was first published in 1947 (not in full). The current publication is the first complete version in Russia, verified from the composer’s final manuscript.
This work will be useful and interesting for beginning pianists to develop their technique, enrich their repertoire and become familiar with the musical language of the last century.
The publication is addressed to performers, researchers, and lovers of the composer's work.
