The collection, first published in 1939, was compiled by Ekaterina Anatolyevna Milkovich (1888–1952), an outstanding teacher of solo singing, professor at the Moscow Conservatory. The works presented in it are accessible to the beginning singer; useful recommendations for teachers and accompanists are contained in the methodological note.
In 2005, the edition was revised by the oldest vocal teacher K. P. Tikhonova, taking into account the new requirements of the repertoire.
