The name of the great Russian singer Fyodor Ivanovich Chaliapin (1873–1938) is known throughout the world. For many generations of artists, Chaliapin was and remains the standard of singing and acting. He created unforgettable images on the opera stage. Particularly distinguished were his Boris Godunov and Varlaam in the operas by M. Mussorgsky, the Miller in "Mermaid" by A. Dargomyzhsky, Mephistopheles in "Faust" by C. Gounod and "Mephistopheles" by A. Boito, Don Basilio in "The Barber of Seville" by G. Rossini.
This collection includes opera arias beloved by F.I. Chaliapin. Compositions by foreign authors are given with the Russian text, which was performed by the singer himself.
