Lermontov is the poet I love from the years of my childhood. Later there were Blok, Akhmatova, Mandeshtam, having joined this personal literary pantheon of mine. Lermontov’s verses are the sounds of contemporaneity — outrageous and poetic, tender and sweet.
Alas! The passed centuries could not eliminate those murderers of Freedom, Genius and Glory — still cringing around the throne.
Lermontov condemns narrow-minded, but envious and smashing scoundrels, suffocating inspired artists. And the weapon he chooses is pamphlet called “Poet Perished”. Mono opera is the suitable genre for the diversity of purports revealed in this poem. Here the God will judge the Poet’s murderers —hardhearted cold d’Anthиs and other disgraceful prosecutors. The verses for romances are most captivating, a bit bashful and sometimes scorched with selfless passion, that was left without response. Tragic fate impends over a man of free spirit, when merciless chains of high society are coiled around him.
True, this poet has overcome the Time and stated eternity forever.
