Alexander Tihonovich Gretchaninov lived enormous, even by today's standards, life. His Liturgia Domestica composer wrote in his family estate at Presnya during the October fighting in 1917. Cut off from the world, without light, water, food, friends, and by the light of smoky candles, he created the music of the fate of Russia, about his own life which was by a thread from death, and this music grows to global generalizations about the global flood and fault, dramatic, theatrical and expressive.
Premiere of the Liturgy in 1918, in frozen Moscow hall, passed unnoticed. Later, in 1926, in Paris, by the choir and Chaliapin, conducted by the author, it caused a storm of applause, in 1929 - with the triumph sounded at the Metropolitan Opera (New York). In Russia, the music waited for the realization a long seventy years.
