The MKH 40 is used in a variety of applications as a main microphone for recording speech or groups of instruments, especially in acoustically inaccurate rooms (with increased reverberation). It has a cardioid pick-up pattern and a high off-axis sound suppression ratio. Provides neutral, balanced sound. It has a switchable low-frequency boost compensation filter at a distance of approximately 0.5 m from the sound source and a switchable -10 dB attenuator.
