The superiority of Prokofiev — а genius screenwriter and piano notation reformer — expressed in three monumental sonatas of 1940–1944 (the Sixth, the Seventh and the Eighth). Не was second to none of his contemporaries as far as his contribution to the genre of stringed keyboard sonata and creation of such impressive “piano symphonies” are concerned.
Of great value is the scale of composer's thought, who ventured on the eve of the war to create а monumental triad of sonatas whose content would be different but which would be linked as far as unity of style and significance of national and epic essense аrе concerned.
Three Pieces for Piano: Promenade, Landscape and Pastorale Sonatina, op. 59 were composed in 1933–1934, having been performed by Prokofiev himself in London in 1934.
