The correspondence of the great Russian composer P. I. Tchaikovsky (1840-1893) with N. F. von Meck (1831-1894) is a significant part of his enormous epistolary heritage. In the five volumes of Series XVII-A of the Academic Complete Works of P.I. Tchaikovsky, more than 1,200 letters are published in full, without cuts, including about two dozen previously unpublished and discovered in recent years. All letters are textually verified based on the sources identified to date.
The first volume includes significant accompanying materials from various archives, as well as from the private collection of the von Meck family, most of which are also published for the first time. The book presents a large number of unique photographs from the personal archive of P. I. Tchaikovsky, the collection of the State Memorial Musical Museum-Reserve of P. I. Tchaikovsky and the private archive of the von Meck family, kindly presented by its descendants.
The publication is addressed to professional musicians, as well as a wide range of readers.
