Already in the 60s of the last century, Sonor drum kits met the highest quality standards, such world stars as Connie Kay, Roy Haines, Sonny Payne and Kenny "Klook" Clark played on the Teardrop series drums.
Sonor Teardrop kits are among the most sought-after vintage drums. The Vintage drum series represents the return of the "old Sonor sound". For the first time, the shell edge made at an angle of 45 degrees was introduced in 1975 and is used on all drums of the SQ2, Prolite and Force series, with the addition of the Vintage series with a rounded edge, drummers will have access to a full palette of sounds that are uniquely defined as the Sonor sound.
The Sonor team has worked tirelessly in collaboration with musicians and collectors to make the Vintage series as close as possible to its predecessors, Teardrop drums, both in sound and in feel and appearance.
Like the original Teardrop drums, the Vintage series installations presented in 2015 have shells made of hand-selected premium German beech. Sonor carefully recreated the look and feel of the teardrop-shaped lag of the 1950s and updated them with an exclusive Tunesafe system. In order not to miss the slightest detail, the Superprofil rims with a triple flange were redesigned and the timeless Sonor sign and logo used between 1952 and 1961 were returned.

The rounded edge provides greater contact of the shell with the plastic for a more powerful and slightly shorter sound, compared to the edges of 45 degrees. As a result, a warm, dry, but resonant sound is achieved, which can be heard so often on old recordings.

Drum shells are made of nine layers of wood with use of the Cross Laminated Tension Free Process —CLTF) technology - cross plywood without tension. Being the result of many years of research by the masters of Sonor, CLTF technology provides excellent stability, extended resonance and bright sound.

Recycled original Superprofil rims with a triple flange, 2.3mm thick, are installed on the floor toms and tom drums.

New lags with the possibility of fine tuning and the TuneSafe function, which prevents the loosening of the tuning screws and guarantees the stability of the tuning even in extreme conditions. Adjusting screws with square heads and fine thread pitch for the most precise adjustment.
